How Quickly Do Marimo Moss Balls Grow? Our 2-Year Update

In March of 2024 I purchased 5 adorable Marimo "moss" balls because I was looking for a unique, low-light level plant that I could display in my bedroom. I love keeping house plants, but the one...

Yes...Carefully, if you need too. Imagine if I stopped there? This would go down in history as my shortest post ever. You know my long-winded self is gunna say more, though! Perhaps a...

Are Axolotls Legal in Your State? List of US States Where It’s Illegal to Keep Axolotls as Pets

I got my first axolotl, Bubbles, back in 2020. I had actually wanted an axolotl for many years before that, but I lived in a state where axolotls are illegal to keep. In late 2019 I moved states,...

Wholesale Virgin Cork Bark Cork Bark Tubes (25 Pounds) Review

What Types of Substrate are Safe for Axolotls & Why?

If you've spent any amount of time on any axolotl-themed social media group, you've probably seen 'it'. "It" being the pandemonium any time anyone even thinks about using gravel in their axolotl...

The Heartbreak of Losing Exotic Pets

"They" say bad luck comes in threes. I'm currently hoping that's the case because within the span of just a few months, I sadly had to say goodbye to three of my Wild Hearts. Prior to this year, I...

Aurora (Sept.20th, 2008 - April 30th,2025) After Aurora (Sept.20th, 2008 - April 30th,2025)

After battling organ failure and gout, just due to old age as far as anyone could tell, we had to say a very sad farewell to the matriarch of our little animal family, Aurora. We kept her comfortable and happy as long as we could, and she passed very peacefully.

This is the last photo I have of her - always the beautiful lady even when she was old and sick!

For many years Aurora was my "go-to" reptile when anyone wanted to hold one of my exotic pets. She was beautiful inside and out and was always the sweetest, most laid back out of all my critters.

I know in her lifetime Aurora helped me to change many minds about reptiles by showing people how awesome they can be! Her legacy will live on through the hearts she touched, as well as through her spitfire of a daughter, Miyuki, who is still with us and doing well.

Rest in peace, sweet Aurora. You are missed.
