Tito (2018 – 2025)

I took a bit of time off from posting on this blog, and sadly in that time we lost one of the Wild Hearts – Tito the Mexican redknee tarantula.

I got Tito on July 26th, 2018. He was already quite large when I got him, and he molted out as a mature male in late 2023. Those who know tarantulas know that adult males on their final molt are on borrowed time. We were thankful to have longer with Tito than I was originally expecting! For quite a while, he continued to eat and do well as a mature male.

Sadly, he did stop eating and went downhill in early 2025.

Tito was one of my first, and probably my favorite (shh don’t tell the others) tarantula. I did attempt to breed Tito to my adult female Mexican redknee, Scarlet, but so far it doesn’t seem like the pairing was successful. If Scarlet does end up blessing us with little Tito babies I’ll be sure to update about it!

Tito was spicy and had a habit of bolting out of his enclosure every time I opened it to care for him. He was definitely an expert at keeping me on my toes! Rest in peace, Tito!
