Creating unique, bioactive enclosures has always been one of my favorite parts of keeping exotic pets! Over the years, I’ve developed a fun system of naming some of my more permanent enclosures. These are the enclosures I spend the most time/money/blood, sweat, and tears on, and I typically intend for them to be long-lasting display set-ups.
Not every enclosure makes the naming cut. I typically don’t name temporary enclosures, ones I plan to upgrade, or enclosures I otherwise know I likely won’t keep around for an extended amount of time. My named enclosures are, for the most part, more permanent set-ups that I plan to keep going for as long as possible.
Unless I’m currently working with fosters, most of my named enclosures are home to my personal animals. I know I already have sections here that introduce each of my animals, so additional sections about enclosures might feel redundant, but I thought some people, at least, might find the enclosure pages interesting. Plus, the same animals don’t always reside in the same enclosure. Sometimes who is where changes based on needs. And my bioactive enclosures, especially, are almost entities unto themselves. I spend a lot of time working on them, caring for plants, making sure parameters are perfect, etc.
So I decided to make pages for my named enclosures! I give them location names because I think it’s fun and silly to be able to say “Oh, Tom the tortoise lives New Tort City!”.
