Scorpions are cool. What else can I say? In 2020 I did a sponsorship deal on one of my other websites and I was paid in…scorpions and tarantulas. Strange form of currency right? At the time I received four Asian forest scorpions. Correct me if I’m wrong and there are any scorpion experts reading this, but I believe my pinchy little pals are heterometrus silenus. Out of the original 4 I was given in 2020 I have 2 left. The other 2, unfortunately, passed away I believe just from old age. They were adults when I got them so I didn’t know how old they were, and Asian forest scorpions typically have a captive life span of up to 8 years.
One of the original scorpions, who was one of the ones who sadly died, was gravid when she came to me. She had her babies in August of 2020. I found homes for most of the little ones, but did keep one. Bringing my current total number of scorpions to three!
Geomon:
Gotcha Day: May 29th, 2020
Geomon is a male. He came to me with paint on one of his pinchers and, because he’s never molted with me, it’s still there all these years later. I was thinking that it would eventually wear off, and it has a bit, but not as much as I thought it would. Either way, it doesn’t seem to impact Geomon any.
Kubuki:
Gotcha Day: May 29th, 2020
Kubuki is my one remaining female scorpion. Sorry the photo of her kind of stinks. She spends most of her time hiding under her favorite coconut hide. I had a hard time getting a clear photo of her without disturbing her too much. If I get a better photo I’ll replace the one displayed here.
Akuma:
Birthday: August 17th, 2020
Akuma is one of the baby scorpions that was born in August of 2020. I’m pretty sure he is indeed a he, but I could be wrong. Funny story – in 2021 we had to move and about a week before our scheduled move Akuma chewed through the plastic in the container he was being kept in and escaped! I was so stressed that I wasn’t going to be able to find him before the move, and I was going to have to explain to the new homeowners that there was a loose scorpion somewhere in their new house. I’m sure they would have loved that! Thankfully, after a few days of absolutely tearing my critter room apart looking for him, I finally found Akuma with just a few days left to spare! I’ve been much more careful about what types of enclosures I keep this little escape artist in ever since then!
