The Wild Hearts are the heart and soul behind this site, and consist of a menagerie of unique individuals ranging from tiny insects to the human who takes care of them all! You can learn more about each of the Wild Heart critters by checking out the drop down menu below “The Wild Hearts” section at the top of the page.
The human behind the Wild Hearts is a life long animal lover who has been caring for various types of exotic animals for over 16 years now. She (yes, she!) has a bachelor’s degree in biology with concentrations in wildlife biology, ecology, and animal behavior.
This website was created to share a love of all things life! We believe in the importance of fostering love and connection to the natural world. That love can start as humbly as a homemade terrarium, potted plant, or well cared for exotic pet, and expand to encompass the entirety of the world around us.
“We only protect what we love, we only love what we understand, and we only understand what we are taught.”
Jacques-Yves Cousteau
Our creed when it comes to keeping exotic pets is that if you’re going to do it, you need to do it well! Animals should not be collected like Pokémon cards, stashed away in small, boring enclosures. We should be giving them the best lives possible! Exotic animals are oftentimes treated as something to be collected, rather than the living, breathing individuals that they are.
Yes, we share our lives with quite a few animals. But we in no way condone the ‘collecting’ of pets. Animals are not only our passion, but our career. That means that we’re able to spend hours per day ensuring that each individual under our care is receiving everything they need to not only survive, but to thrive. Please don’t impulse buy pets that you’re not ready to fully commit to for the entirety of their lifespan!
Each Wild Heart critter is provided with personalized, individualized, research backed care. We provide large, enriching, often times bio-active enclosures and well researched, species appropriate diets to each of our animals. We design enrichment programs for each animal based on their individual biology. For some, that includes ample opportunities to exercise and explore outside of their enclosures. Although our animals are used to help educate others, each critter under our care is, first and foremost, a beloved member of the Wild Heart family! We spend a lot of time researching and keeping up to date on exotic animal care standards, and love sharing that information with you!
