My only interactions with snakes as a child were catching (and releasing) garter snakes in the woods near our house. I always knew I wanted to keep a snake as a pet someday, and in 2018 got my first snake – a ball python. Perhaps a bit basic, I know, but I’ve always loved ball pythons. I love their size – not too big, not too small, and think they have really cute faces! Since my first ball python I went on to get two more, bringing my current count to three. I’d like to think that I’ll move on to more “interesting” species if I get anymore snakes in the future, but my love for ball pythons hasn’t waned any, and they come in so many cool morphs!
Wyrm:
Hatch Date: July 26th, 2018
Wyrm is a female piebald ball python. Out of all the awesome morphs out there, piebald is probably my favorite. So I figured I’d go big or go home with my first snake, and got my favorite morph right off the bat. Wyrm was really young when I got her and I originally had some trouble getting her to eat consistently, but she almost never misses a meal now! Out of my three ball pythons Wyrm is the calmest, and the one that tolerates handling the best. She’s typically the only one of my snakes that I allow people to handle and has been an amazing ambassador animal. Wyrm has helped a lot of people take the first steps towards getting over their fear of snakes!
Akasha:
Hatch Date: August 23rd, 2018
Akasha is barely any younger than Wyrm but she was older when I got her. So I haven’t had her for quite as long. Akasha is a lesser pastel female. She’s a beautiful snake but is very shy and doesn’t typically enjoy interacting with humans. She isn’t aggressive at all, though. Akasha seems to like to show everyone first hand why they call them “ball” pythons. Akasha was named after a character from the author Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series.
Jörmungandr:
Hatch Date: May 27th, 2019
Say that name 5 times fast! Jörmungandr is my only male ball python. He is a black pastel Mojave. Jörmungandr is named after the Midgard serpent of Norse mythology. He’s a huge jerk. Jörmungandr is the only one of my snakes who has ever bitten me. I have to be careful when I open his cage door because he randomly likes to strike at me. Jörmungandr is the reason why I own a snake hook, when the only species of snake I own are ball pythons! I love my spicy boy, though, and don’t hold his attitude against him any.
